How It Works

From Design Concept to Finished Patio

Discuss your project, review the proposed scope and plan the next steps with our team.

  1. Free Design Consultation and Site Assessment

We meet at your property to discuss your vision, measure the space, evaluate soil conditions and drainage patterns, and identify any underground utilities or site challenges. We'll talk about how you plan to use the space, your material preferences, and your budget range. This 30-45 minute visit gives us everything we need to create a design that fits your property and lifestyle. There's never any cost or obligation for this initial consultation.

  2. Custom Patio Design and Material Selection

Based on our site assessment, we create a detailed patio design showing layout, material patterns, grade changes, and integrated features like walls or fire pits. You'll review material samples in person to see colors and textures against your home's exterior. Our design includes proper drainage engineering, base depth calculations, and structural specifications for any built features. We revise the design until you're completely satisfied with every detail.

  3. Detailed Proposal and Project Scheduling

You'll receive an itemized proposal with material quantities, labor breakdown, project timeline, and total investment. We explain every line item so you understand exactly what you're getting and why. Once approved, we schedule your project within our production calendar and order materials to ensure everything arrives on time. Most patio projects are scheduled within 2 to 4 weeks of approval, depending on the season and material availability.

  4. Site Preparation and Base Construction

This is the most important phase. Everything above depends on what's below. We excavate to the required depth, remove organic material, and install compacted gravel base layers in lifts using plate compactors. Proper base depth in Southeastern Massachusetts is typically 8 to 12 inches depending on soil conditions and intended use. We verify grade and compaction at every stage to ensure the foundation will support your patio through decades of freeze-thaw cycles.

  5. Patio Surface Installation

With a solid base in place, we install your chosen surface material according to the approved design. Pavers are laid on screeded bedding sand in precise patterns. Natural stone is hand-fit and leveled piece by piece. Bluestone is cut and placed with consistent joint widths. Edge restraints are installed and secured. Joint material is swept in and the entire surface is compacted for final settling. Every course is checked for level and alignment throughout the installation.

  6. Final Inspection, Cleanup, and Warranty

We walk through the completed patio together, checking every detail against the approved design. Any adjustments are made on the spot. The site is cleaned thoroughly, excess material is removed, and disturbed lawn areas are restored with topsoil and seed. You receive care and maintenance instructions specific to your material.

Henrique and his team did incredible work at our new home. He does the best work around at amazing prices and is FAST! This is the second patio that he has done for us and we've recommended him to everyone we know. Highly recommend contacting Contrast Landscape for any outdoor needs! Our patio was completed within two days and looks incredible. Once the lawn gets seeded and the rocks are swept up, it's going to look even more amazing.

Common Questions

Patio Installation FAQ

Get answers to the most common questions about patio materials, installation timelines, costs, and maintenance for residential and commercial properties in Southeastern Massachusetts.

We install a full range of premium patio materials including natural stone (granite, fieldstone), interlocking concrete pavers (Belgard, Techo-Bloc, Unilock), Pennsylvania bluestone (thermal and natural cleft finishes), flagstone, and porcelain pavers. Each material has different aesthetics, durability characteristics, and price points. During your free consultation, we'll show you samples and help you choose the material that best matches your home's style, your intended use, and your budget.

Patio costs vary based on size, material choice, site conditions, and integrated features. A basic paver patio starts at a lower price point, while natural stone patios with built-in features like seating walls and fire pits represent a larger investment. We provide detailed, itemized proposals after our free site assessment so you know exactly what you're paying for. We can also design projects in phases to work with your budget timeline.

Most residential patio installations are completed within 3 to 7 days depending on size and complexity. A simple 200-square-foot paver patio typically takes 3 to 4 days. Larger projects with walls, steps, fire features, and multiple levels may take 2 to 3 weeks. Weather can affect the schedule, particularly during spring when ground conditions may require extra drying time. We provide a detailed timeline in your proposal.

In Southeastern Massachusetts, the ideal patio installation season runs from late April through November. Spring and early summer are the most popular scheduling times, so we recommend booking your consultation in late winter or early spring to secure your preferred dates. Fall installations work well too, and you'll often find more flexible scheduling. We can install in most weather conditions except active rain or frozen ground.

Proper drainage is engineered into every patio we build. For larger patios or properties with challenging grade, we install French drains, channel drains, or catch basins integrated into the patio design. Permeable paver options and dry-laid stone with open joints allow water to infiltrate directly through the surface, reducing runoff.

Both are excellent choices for New England. Pavers offer the widest design variety, consistent sizing, and easy individual replacement if damaged. Natural stone provides unique character, ages beautifully, and is incredibly durable. Bluestone offers a refined, classic New England aesthetic. The best choice depends on your home's architecture, your aesthetic preferences, and your budget. We bring samples to your consultation so you can see materials against your home.

Absolutely. We design integrated outdoor living features as part of the patio project so foundations, utilities, and aesthetics are coordinated from the start. Fire pits, outdoor kitchens, seating walls, pergola footings, and landscape lighting can all be built into your patio. If you're planning features for the future, we design the foundation to accommodate them so additions connect seamlessly later.

Patio maintenance is minimal. We recommend sweeping or blowing debris regularly, cleaning with a garden hose or pressure washer annually, and replenishing joint sand or stone dust as needed. Paver patios benefit from polymeric sand in the joints to prevent weed growth. Natural stone patios may need occasional repointing of mortar joints. We provide specific care instructions for your material at project completion.
